2023 Spring Concert and Academic Award Ceremony

Chesterton Academy of St. Mary’s held their Spring Concert and Academic Award Ceremony May 24, 2023. The concert, led by Mr. Gill, included beautiful renditions of Ave Maria, Anima Christi, Te Deum and Salve Regina.

Students displayed a variety of talent, including two duets and a solo of her original composition by Catherine Powell.

The choir also surprised the audience with a fun rendition of The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

Thank you to our Humanities, Science, Music and Choir teacher, Mr. Patrick Gill for cultivating the student’s talent and preparing the students for such an impressive performance!

The 2023 Academic Awards Ceremony followed where Headmaster Andrew Pudysz presented Second Honor Awards (cumulative GPA between 3.33 and 3.66) and First Honors Awards (cumulative GPA between 3.67 and 4.0).

First Honors: Mae Cantu, Meribeth Davis, Joel Hidalgo-Vasquez, Kale Metcalf, Clare Schnitker, Althea Shane, Michelle Shane and Dylan Young.

Second Honors: Blake Gibson, Jerome Hurla and Truman Wathen.

All Chesterton Academy Schools nominate and select students for various Academic Awards. The Chesterton Academy of St. Mary’s students were nominated and chosen by the faculty and the awards were presented for exemplary scholarship and dedication in each discipline.

The G. K. Award was presented to Violet Walker. This award is given to an upper-class student who best demonstrates the great virtues of charity and joy so evident in our illustrious and intellectual patron, G. K. Chesterton.

The Socrates Award was presented to Jerome Hurla. This award is given to an upper-class student who best manifests the spirit of frank discourse by engaging consistently in classroom discussion across the curriculum and distinguishing those contributions both in terms of quantity and quality.

Joseph Summers was presented the Fine Arts Award for Art; Joshua Prucha was presented the Fine Arts Award for Drama; and Catherine Powell was presented the Fine Arts Award for Music. Michelle Shane was presented the Humanities Award; Clair Schnitker was presented the Mathematics Award; and Jatavion (JT) Liggon was presented the Science Award.       

House Prefects for next academic year were announced: Meribeth Davis, Catherine Powell, Joseph Summers and Tristan Quade.

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Youth Citizenship Award was presented to Dylan Young and is based on five qualities of Honor, Service, Courage, Leadership and Patriotism.

Class of 2023 Valedictorian is Althea Shane and the Salutatorian is Dylan Young.

Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Ms. Cheri Weiland who best demonstrates and exemplifies the virtue of a Classical educator: high level of instruction and dedication, outstanding role model and mentor, consistently goes above and beyond and offers more than expected in all areas, even those outside of academics.
