Chesterton Academy of St Mary’s Appoints College and Academic Counselor

Chesterton Academy of St. Mary’s is pleased to announce its new College and Academic Counselor, Mrs. Karissa Prigge, M.Ed.

Mrs. Prigge specializes in Student Success Strategies, including Motivation, Learning Styles, Note Taking, Study Techniques, Goal Setting, Dealing with Test Anxiety and Effective Time Management. She excels in coaching and mentoring to assist teachers, students, and parents with conflict, academic, and personal-social concerns. She will offer guidance on peer conflicts, self-regulation, and classroom behavior norms.

Mrs. Prigge will fill an important role as the College Counselor as a number of students discern their post-high school plans. She will assist students in their college search and discernment of their career goals. She is proficient in Naviance, Xello and Veracross college and post-secondary platform software programs used Nationwide by colleges for data, records, and research.

Speaking about her joining the Chesterton Academy faculty, Mrs. Prigge said, “I feel as if everything I have experienced in my life has come to prepare me for God’s will at this moment: each being an unrelated piece of tile when put together becomes a fitting mosaic for Chesterton Academy of St Mary’s. I am truly blessed to have found a place which brings me to great joy as I assist others on their journeys to deeper meaning and purpose.”

Currently a Catholic Religious Education Teacher at Sacred Heart Church in LaPlata, Mrs. Prigge has been the Director of Religious Education with the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. She has also led several young women’s ministries, including Gratia Plena Group and Walking with Purpose Small Group. She has taught in various schools and just completed her Practicum Internship with St. Mary’s Ryken High School, Leonardtown, MD.

"Having Mrs. Prigge on board will help our students to achieve greater success in many areas: academic, personal, and spiritual”, said Mr. Andrew Pudysz, Headmaster at Chesterton Academy of St. Mary’s. “Her passion, zeal, and determination to help others are evident immediately. I'm confident she will provide authentic, orthodox, and fruitful guidance for all our students that will be noticed immediately and in the future. I'm so happy that she has joined our faculty and staff here at Chesterton Academy of St. Mary's."

In addition to her role as the Academy’s school counselor, Mrs. Prigge will fill several positions next year. With her B.A. in Theater Arts and Minor in English/Humanities, she will lead two Drama productions and teach 12th grade Theology (Life in Christ and Christian Prayer).

Mrs. Prigge will join the faculty in time for the 2022-2023 school year.
